SHEEPVENTION Rural Expo is set to make its return after a two year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event will return to the Hamilton Showgrounds on Sunday, July 31 through to Tuesday, August 2.

A bustling crowd is expected to enjoy a range of events including The Hamilton and District Sheep Show, ram sale, wool handling, Coprice Victorian Farm Dog Championships, innovations hub, producers pavilion, trade exhibitions and more.

The renowned sheep show is expected to attract a large variety of breeds from across the district.

The Merino Show will take place on Monday, with all remaining breeds on display on Sunday and Monday.

A favourite with the crowd, the Coprice Victorian Farm Dog Championships was again expected to draw fantastic competition for the working dogs and handlers competing.

There will be a number of competitions available to keep the kids creative, with scarecrow and photography competitions open to school aged children.

“We are very much looking forward to the return of Sheepvention and all the components that make up such a fantastic event,” Sheepvention president Kathryn Robertson said.

“Entries are now open for the sheep show with the feature breed being Poll Dorsets.

“We anticipate another great ram sale with some pens already registered, but expect more to come.”

The Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society also announced the appointment of Emmelie Nijskens as business and events manager, overseeing the Hamilton Showgrounds and Sheepvention Rural Expo alongside Ms Robertson and committee chairman Will Kinghorn.

Ms Nijskens, who grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Terang, said the opportunity to move closer to home in a field she was passionate about could not be passed up.

“I’m very excited to be moving back to south west Victoria,” she said.

“I have always said if I can combine my love for events management with my background and passion for agriculture it would be the perfect job, so this is a really great opportunity for me and I look forward to being a part of the team.”

Ms Nijskens said the committee was also looking for more volunteers to assist with meeting the demands of all areas of Sheepvention.

“We hope that anyone interested will reach out,” she said.

Registrations are currently open for trade site applications at www.hamiltonshowgrounds.com.au.

Tickets for Sheepvention became available online this week at www.sheepvention.com.
