Shire begins widespread resealing project
WORK trucks have been out in force across the shire as Corangamite Shire Council undertakes widespread resealing efforts.
Council will undertake around 66 kilometres of resealing across the shire in 2024 under the Resealing Program, in a bid to preserve and maintain the road pavement.
Last week in Terang road segments were resealed in Bolivar Street, McKinnon Street, Seymour Street, Swanston Street, Wilson Street, Baynes Street and Estcourt Street.
Corangamite Shire mayor Kate Makin said the resealing would provide long-term protection for roads from the elements.
“Another 66km of local roads across Corangamite Shire will be resealed in the new year,” she said.
“This is about seven per cent of the shire’s sealed local road network.
“Council maintains 914km of sealed local roads which need periodic sealing to maintain the surface and stop water getting in and weakening the underlying pavement.
“The new surface has a lifespan of about 15 years but all of our local roads are resurfaced well before their use-by date.”
