Shire seeking engagement
CORANGAMITE Shire Council is calling on people of all ages and abilities help prepare a Positive Ageing, Accessibility and Inclusion Plan for 2025-2029.
“Let’s work together to make Corangamite a place where everyone can thrive,” mayor councillor Kate Makin said.
“Drawing on the lived experience of our community is vital for planning council services, infrastructure, and programs for a more accessible and inclusive community.
“When everyone feels a sense of belonging, they are better able to participate in community.”
Council is embarking on a new strategy to help guide and inform positive ageing, access and inclusion.
Council has been working for the last few years providing support in accessing services and hosting activities for seniors.
“We are keen to hear from our residents on the kinds of things they would like to see included in the plan,” Cr Makin said.
“We want to know how we can help improve the health and wellbeing of our residents, and make sure our residents are able to participate in community life.
“Your ideas and experience can help us make decisions and investments that benefit our community and those who face additional challenges in day-to-day life.
“Please come along to one of our consultation events.
“If someone you know – a relative, friend or neighbour – can’t come along and doesn’t use technology, please help them by passing their ideas on to council or have them call the Positive Ageing Team on 5593 7100.”
Cr Makin said the plan would help provide fair and dignified access to services, facilities, planning, communications, and employment opportunities for residents.
The engagement sessions will be held over a number of days, starting Monday, May 12 at Terang Civic Hall from 1pm-3pm and Killara Centre in Camperdown from 6pm-8pm.
