New era: Corangamite and Moyne Shire councils have launched the new management model for its libraries.

LOCAL libraries in Corangamite and Moyne will soon have a new name, a new look and more than three million items available to borrow.

Corangamite Moyne Library Service launches on July 1 and all users will have access to the Libraries Victoria catalogue of books, audio books, DVDs, magazines and other resources.

Corangamite Moyne Library Service Coordinator Kat Wilson said the new library model was a win-win for customers.

“Our branches will all be in the same places, with the same hours and the same faces you know and love behind the desk, but you have a huge range of items to borrow,” she said.

“The One Library card also means you can borrow more items at a time for longer, and it’s fine free.”

Ms Wilson said Libraries Victoria would be launching a new app in the coming weeks meaning people would be able to access the library catalogue from their smartphones.

Corangamite and Moyne Library Service replaces the Corangamite Regional Library Corporation and manages library services for both the Corangamite and Moyne shires.

The service’s new logo features eight coloured bars – each representing a branch the service manages and chosen to reflect characteristics of the area that branch services.

Mortlake is represented by the olive green.

The selection was a nod to olivine, a mineral commonly found in the Mortlake area which was formed underground and brought to the surface during the volcanic explosions which occurred from Mount Shadwell, the now dormant volcano which quietly overlooks the township.

Terang is represented by lush green, representing the avenue of English Oak trees, which the library branch sits adjacent to.

The colour is also representative of the rich and fertile pastures which surround the town.

The coloured bars are linked by an outline of Mount Emu Creek – a geographic feature of both the Corangamite and Moyne Shire councils.
