Simpson community to band together
SIMPSON Bowls Club are hosting a day of bowls, barbecuing and community cheer to mark R U OK? Day.

R U OK? is an Australian suicide prevention charity which encourages people on R U OK? Day in September to open conversations around mental health and wellbeing.
While the charity advocates for people to have these conversations on any day, R U OK? Day provides the opportunity to start the conversation.
On Sunday, September 14, Simpson Bowls Club will be hosting come and try bowls from 10am as well as a free barbecue from 12noon to encourage community members to gather and touch base with one another.
Simpson Bowls Club president David Costin said the day was all about starting meaningful conversations.
“The idea is just what R U OK? is about,” he said.
“It’s just to keep the conversation going, or starting a meaningful conversation.
“Simpson’s had a pretty rough trot lately with the couple of car accidents and also the farmers have had a challenging couple of years with conditions.
“It’s probably pretty poignant for the community that we take advantage of the grant available from Corangamite Shire to host the day and make the most of it.”
Mr Costin said the day was less about getting on the lawn for bowls and more about connection with others.
“The lawn bowls is probably just because we’re a bowls club – that’s an optional thing,” he said.
“It’s more just a free barbeque.
“People are invited to just come along and have a chat more than anything – grab a snag and have a yarn with other people from the community.”
