SIMPSON Speedway hosts a massive card of events this weekend when they host the Victorian 360ci Sprintcar Championship on Saturday night.
The headline event boasts a record field of 44 cars, a significant increase from last year’s 17-car field, and is packed with past winners and other big names.
Seven previous Victorian champions will compete for the title, including last year’s winner Brenten Farrer from Bendigo, Michael Tancredi (2018, 2016), Jordyn Charge (2017), Geelong’s Domain
Ramesy (2015), Chris Solomon (2012) and local driver Phil Lock who won in Simpson in 2010.
Other notable contenders for the championship include national 360ci sprintcar champion Brett Milburn, Simpson local John Vogels, Sam Wren, Eddie Lumbar, Tim Van Ginneken, and Geelong’s James Aranyosi.
Simpson Speedway president Tim Rankin said he was very pleased with the field and expected a huge night of racing.
“The 360 Victorian finals will be massive, it’s normally a really good meeting,” he said.
“This is the fourth 360 title we’ve hosted it, including last year.
“It’s one of the biggest car counts we’ve had, we’ve had great support from the drivers, so we’re absolutely rapt.”
In addition to the sprintcar title, the night will feature the junior Formula 500s, SRA LS Sprintcars, the senior Formula 500s and, Rankin hopes, vintage saloons and rods.
“We’ve had a change to the program, we’ve added the senior Formula 500 as we’re not sure the vintage rods can fill their car count,” he said.
“We’re giving them a couple of extra days, we want to give them every opportunity to get their numbers.”
Rankin said every class brought something different to the evening, highlighting the quality of the junior drivers.
“The junior 500 draw a good crowd, and they’ve put on some really fantastic races this year,” he said.
“You’ve got young Tyler Maggs and Zoe Pearce, they’ve been going hammer and tongs between the two of them this year, so it should be a good night.”
General admission tickets can be purchased at the track or online. Gates open at 4pm, racing from 6pm.
