THE long history of the Simpson and District Lions Club will soon be visible for all to see.

Members helped plant a special commemorative garden bed in Simpson recently.

Club member Marie Van Den Broek said in 2018, Lions around the world celebrated 100 years of service since its inception in Chicago by a man called Melvin Jones.

She said he was a man with a vision who helped create a service organisation that is still thriving today.

“This year we celebrate another anniversary in Lions. Australia has proudly been involved in serving local, nationwide and international causes for 75 years,” Mrs Van Den Broek said.

“With the permission of Corangamite Council, Simpson and District members have planted a commemorative flower garden in the township of Simpson."

“Blue/purple and yellow daisies have been planted in the design of our Lions emblem and 75 years.”

Mrs Van Den Broek said in a few weeks club members hope to see the first of the flowers start to bloom in readiness for the 75th Anniversary in September.

“Lions Australia has asked clubs across the country to each plant a commemorative garden,” she said.

“With over 1200 clubs, you are sure to see a beautiful display wherever you go in your travels.”
