SIMPSON’S senior netball sides continued their solid season over the weekend – with A and B grade heading to the semi finals this weekend.
The D grade team will also head to the elimination finals over the weekend in pursuit of final success.
A Grade Netball secured its ticket to the semi finals with a narrow win over Apollo Bay.
Senior coach Paige Salmon said there was a “fair amount of relief” after Sunday’s result, which saw Simpson A Grade defeat Apollo Bay 47 to 46.
The result came down to the final seconds for Simpson, according to Salmon.
“We were up for most of the game, but Apollo Bay came charging home,” she said.
“We started really well, we were able to take the lead for three quarters.
“Apollo Bay took the lead. We fought back and were able to steal the win.”
Salmon said the team was “very lucky to get the win”.
“We’re super happy and relieved to be able to come away with the win,” she said.
Salmon credited Jessie Hawkins, who played goal shooter on the day, as the team’s best for the game.
“She played really well,” she said.
“She shot 31 goals for the day.”
A Grade will take on Irrewarre-Beeac this Sunday at Central Reserve in Colac at 2.30pm.
Salmon said she was feeling confident about the match-up.
“We’re feeling pretty good,” she said.
“We feel we are a pretty good match-up.
“We will be keeping the same line-up.”
The last time Simpson A grade played Irrewarre-Beeac in round 17, Irrewarre-Beeac narrowly defeated them by three goals and in round eight Simpson was victorious 47 to 38.
Simpson’s B grade defeated Lorne 42-40 and will play South Colac this Sunday.
D Grade will play its elimination final against Colac Imperials this Sunday.
