Simpson smashed by Swans

SIMPSON had one of their biggest losses for the season, losing to Alvie by nine wickets in the round 14 Colac-South West premier cricket match on Saturday.

Batting first at the Alvie Recreation Reserve, Simpson could only manage 88 with the bat in 39.1 overs.

Tanner Fratantaro top scored with a patient 15 not out from 76 balls, with Phil Vines and Nick Harding both making 13.

In reply, Alvie took just 19.1 overs to pass the score for the loss of one wicket.

Skipper Jackson Rock took the lone wicket to fall, bowling 10 overs straight with the new ball and finishing with 1/37.

The 13th placed Tigers finish their season this Saturday, playing a home game at Port Campbell against Pomborneit.

In division two, Simpson had a three wicket loss to Colac at CMTP Oval.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Simpson posted 9/150 from their 40 overs.

Bailey Vines top scored with 50 from 97 balls, hitting seven boundaries, with Shaun Baines making 35 from 57 balls.

Colac passed the score in the 34th over, making 7/154.

Thomas Marshall, Liam Ackerley and Sean Baines took two wickets each for Simpson.

The division two Tigers finished the season in sixth place, this week playing an elimination final against Irrewarra at Colac Secondary College Oval.

In division three, Simpson had a 101 run loss to Stoneyford at the Simpson Recreation Reserve.

The visitors batted first, posting 2/231 from their 40 overs.

Xander Wheel led the Simpson bowlers with 2/52 from eight overs.

In reply, Simpson were bowled out in the 33rd over for 130.

Skipper Owen Leighton top scored with 28 from 37 balls, with Steve Newcombe making 23 and Geordie Ferrari making 23.

The division three Tigers finish on the bottom of the ladder without a win in the 2025/26 season.

In the under 14s on Friday night, Simpson finished their season with a 97 run loss to Irrewarra Black.

Batting first, Simpson made 4/84 from their 30 overs.

Fin Mahoney top scored with 19 retired from his 24 balls.

In reply, Irrewarra Black made 8/181.

Jack Vogels and Cooper Beecher took two wickets each for the junior Tigers.

Simpson finished the season in sixth place in division one of the under 14 competition.

The women's qualifying final between Simpson and Pomborneit Gold at Pomborneit on Sunday was washed out after 17.3 overs of play.

Pomborneit Gold batted first and were 4/128 when the rain hit.

Simpson captain Chelsea Osburn had taken 2/33 from five overs, with Bianca Robinson also taking a wicket before play was halted.

This week, in the semi final, Simpson will host Birregurra at the Simpson Recreation Reserve, the winner progressing to the grand final.
