Simpson’s finals finished

Simpson seniors were knocked out of the elimination final last weekend going down by 21 points.
Senior coach Daniel Beard thought early in the game to midway through the second quarter the Tigers were in control of the play, “we just missed a few chances with that momentum”.
“In the next 10 to 12 minutes they (Colac Imperials) kicked five goals,” he said.
“And then they didn’t stop. There was a couple of turn-overs from our mistakes, a couple of 50’s that really hurt us.”
The third quarter saw the Tigers’ claw back, with some momentum building to reduce the deficit.
“We were getting close, but then a few injuries dampened our run and momentum,” Beard said.
“The boys battled on in the fourth quarter but they weren’t going to close the gap.”
With the Tiger’s having more scoring shots at goal, Beard said it had been a “little bit of a tread throughout the season” which had cost them because of their kicking.
He said on the weekend it was a breezy day, and you had to kick the ball perfectly into the breeze.
“Some were gettable goals, and that was one of the things, the boys were disappointed in themselves,” Beard said.
“Early in the game it just felt we were really on top, it was just a shame we couldn’t continue it.
“But I’m super proud of the boys, I said after the game, while we look at the last hour of the game, we need to look at the year as a whole.
“If you look at it as a whole, we have achieved all our goals we had set, we got to play finals which was the big goal.”
Simpson only won three games last year, so to turn around and win 10 and make finals, was a “huge step forward”, according to Beard.
“Even more so, I’m really proud of the group off the ground and where the club is at, as a whole.
“We are really big on the community to see and talk positively about the football club, that has definitely happen and a testament to all the players, supporter and community, it has been a real enjoyable year.”
He said he was proud of what the team have achieved for the season.
“I would say in that first 30 minutes of football, I don’t think I have seen us play like that as a group,” Beard said.
“It was a lot of the training and pre-season planning, it just really clicked for that period of football.
“The group looked fantastic; I was standing there proud as punch watching them going the way about it.
“We will have a good base for next year.”
