Slow start for Tigers

A FIRST loss of the season for Derrinallum's cricketers, with the Tigers having a six wicket loss to reigning premiers Haddon.

The Tigers batted first in the match at the Derrinallum Recreation Reserve, and were dismissed for 101 in the 40th over.

"The ground was very slow so we thought it was a reasonably competitive score" Derrinallum captain Ned Uren said.

"We got a few starts, we threw a few wickets away, Haddon are an experienced, smart team, their bowling was very disciplined."

KB Randhawa top scored for Derrinallum with 21, with Uren making 18.

Three early wickets to new ball bowler Hunter Thompson gave the Tigers hope before a clinical Haddon lineup settled into the run chase.

Thompson finished with 3/21 from eight overs as Haddon passed the score in the 31st over for the loss of four wickets.

"Hunter was the pick of our bowlers, he troubled them early.

"We knew Haddon would bat all the way down though."

This week sees the highly anticipated local derby against Lismore at Lismore.

"It's a game everyone is pumped for, we're expecting a big crowd and a tough game."

Derrinallum's under 16 team also start their season tomorrow with a home game against Linton at the Derrinallum Recreation Reserve.
