Social housing build experiences delays
WORKS on Fenton Street have been delayed, pushing back the opening of 13 new social homes in Camperdown.
Western District Newspapers reported in June last year that works, which are part of the Victorian Government’s $6.3 billion Big Housing Build and Regional Housing Fund, were was expected to be completed by late 2024.
At time of publication, nine of the 13 houses had been completed, with frames being constructed for the remaining homes.
Delays, which have been attributed to extensive site remediation works and sector-wide issues with workforce availability, will now see the project expected to be completed by mid-2025.
A Homes Victoria spokesperson said the homes were part of the 13,300 homes to be delivered under the Big Housing Build program.
“We’re building 13 new social homes in Camperdown in partnership with Women’s Housing Limited thanks to our Big Housing Build,” the spokesperson said.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming residents into these brand-new homes later this year.”
