Special milestones for bowlers

CAMPERDOWN Golf Bowls Club celebrated some special milestones recently.

By wd-news

Golf bowler Algie White celebrated his 350th game on Saturday.
Golf bowler Algie White celebrated his 350th game on Saturday.

Algie White played his 350th game on Saturday while Peter James played his 100th mid-week game on Tuesday.

The club’s division one Saturday team is desperate for a win following a 30 shot loss to Colac last Saturday.

Golf managed to share the rinks with Colac but seem to have one rink lose quite badly each week, which doesn’t help the overall total at the end of the day.

Glenn Winsall’s rink of David Bateman, Greg Molan and Jack Paasse had a good win over Anthony Holt’s rink, 265-21.

Gary Body’s rink of Algie White, Mark Winsall and Greg Teal had a good tussle with Tim Hassett’s rink going down 21-25.

John Molan’s rink of Jamie Norton, Daryl O’Donohue and James Henry had a day to forget, going down to Jeff Turner’s rink 9-41.

Craig Skene’s rink of Andrew Anderson, Peter Reilly and Taj Merrett had a good win over Jai Whitson’s rink, 25-23.

Tomorrow Golf is at home to Apollo Bay to start the second round and a strong showing is expected.

Division one teams for tomorrow at home to Apollo Bay (note early start time of 12noon):

Greg Teal, Dan Stewart, Algie White and Chris Pearson (s).

Jack Paasse, Greg Molan, David Bateman (m) and Glenn Winsall (s).

James Henry, Kevin Russell, John Molan and Paul Richards (s).

Taj Merrett, Peter Reilly, Andrew Anderson and Craig Skene (s).

Division two was unable to continue its good form, going down to Winchelsea 2 by 20 shots.

John O’Donohue’s rink of Peter James, Michael Brebner and Ray Bateman went down to David Littler’s rink 22-23.

Dan Stewart’s rink of Ro Dunstan, Kevin Russell and Kona Kerr lost to Julie Johnson’s rink 27-28.

Chris McLeod’s rink of Terry Place, Noel Brebner and Greg Edwards went down by six shots to Geof Hately’s rink 18-24.

Leanne Fitzgerald’s rink of Trey Darcy, Pam Place and Noelene Tolland lost to Ian Holmes’ rink 16-28.

This loss sees Golf drop to sixth on the ladder and with a game against bottom side Birregurra tomorrow, a win is a must to keep in touch with the top four.

Division two teams for tomorrow at home against Birregurra:

Ray Bateman, Pam Place, Peter James and John O’Donohue (s).

Noelene Tolland, Noel Brebner, Ro Dunstan (m) and Terry Place (s).

Greg Edwards, Daryl O’Donohue, Trey Darcy and Chris McLeod (s).

Thomas Henry, Sam Clarke, Michael Brebner and Leanne Fitzgerald (s).

Division three also shared the rinks against Central 2 but went down by 17 shots, 68-85.

John Salau’s rink of Keira Johnston, Zach Regan and Pat Scott continued on their winning way with a five shot win over Leonard Armistead’s rink 23-18.

Steve Lucas’ rink of Carol Wilson, Xavier Crabbe and Ruth Skene went down to John Langdon’s rink 13-25.

Garry Brian’s rink of Liz Riches, Andrew Whiteside and Trish Taylor battled hard all day to go down to Edward Iermee’s rink 9-25.

Gary Mitchell’s rink of Janet Molan, Norma Weller and George Bateman had a six shot win over Norman Dowie’s rink, 23-17.

Tomorrow Golf travel to play Colac 3 who sits third on the ladder so a big effort will be needed to win the points.

Golf went down to Colac 3 by two shots in round one, so a win is not beyond them.

Teams for Golf 3 away to Colac 3 are:

Pat Scott, Zac Regan, Keira Johnson and Garry Brian (s).

Kathy Banks, Xavier Crabbe, Janet Molan (m) and Carol Wilson (s).

Elaine Waterfall, TBA, Liz Riches and Rene Wyles (s).

Trish Taylor, Andrew Whiteside, Kona Kerr and Gary Mitchell (s).

Skippers are to arrange transport.

In mid-week pennant last Tuesday, division one was at home to Cressy and finished with a one shot win.

This has enabled Golf to stay in touch with the top four.

Golf sits in sixth spot, just three points behind Cressy in fourth.

Leanne Fitzgerald’s rink of Craig Skene, Elaine Waterfall and Greg Teal had a two shot win over Anne Keating’s rink, 23-21.

Peter Reilly’s rink of Pam Place, Janet Molan and Kell Edwards were the big winners of the day with an 11 shot win over Moira Turner’s rink, 27-16.

Barb Boyd’s rink of Rene Wyles, John O’Donohue and Noelene Tolland fought hard all day but went down to Neville Keating’s rink 18-30.

Next Tuesday Golf will travel to take on Colac who sits just behind Golf on the ladder.

A close encounter is expected.

Teams for next Tuesday at Colac are:

Greg Teal, Elaine Waterfall, Dan Stewart and Leeanne Fitzgerald (s).

Noelene Tolland, John O’Donohue, Rene Wyles and Barb Boyd (s).

Kell Edwards, Janet Molan (m), Pam Place and John Molan (s).

Skippers are to arrange transport.

Division three was at home to the undefeated Camperdown and finished with a 37 shot loss, 47-84.

This was a good effort against a very strong side.

Congratulations to Peter James who played his 100th midweek game for the Magpies and skippered his rink of Garry Brian, Pat Scott and Val Coverdale to a three shot win over Brad Wilson’s rink 22-19.

Marg Stephens’ rink of Norma Weller, Steph Whiteside and Kathy Banks put up a good showing to go down by 12 shots to Vicki Brebner’s team, 15-27.

Carol Wilson’s rink of Noel Brebner, Ruth Skene and Liz Riches went down by 28 shots to Maria Van Someren’s rink, 10-38.

Golf will travel to Winchelsea next Tuesday for what will be a tough game.

Last time these two sides me, Golf came home with a 30 shot win.

Teams for next Tuesday’s game at Winchelsea are:

Val Coverdale, Pat Scott, Garry Brian (m) and Peter James (s).

Liz Riches, Ruth Skene, Noel Brebner and Carol Wilson (s).

Kathy Banks, Steph Whiteside, Norma Weller and Marg Stephens (s).

Skippers are to arrange transport.

The men’s singles championship is at an interesting stage.

Billy Conheady, David Bateman, John Molan, Greg Teal, Algie White and Craig Skene are all still in the running to win.

Social bowls will be played at 1pm today, weather permitting. All welcome.
