Special night out for worthy cause

CAMPERDOWN Football Netball Club is inviting residents to come together for a Ladies’ Day to support the work Lifeline does.

The club’s Ladies’ Day, which begins at 3pm on Saturday, April 11, will see all proceeds of the night going towards the work of the national crisis support charity.

Club co-president Caitlyn Fitzgerald said the club chooses a different charity each year, having raised funds for brain cancer last year.

“The Hampden Football Netball League have an affiliation with Lifeline, so we though it’d be best to support them to support their work the league does,” she said.

“Last year the Hampden Football Netball League started some work with training general members of different clubs in the Accidental Counsellor training, which gives people skills in asking people if they’re okay, following up and confidence and knowledge in where to support other people in where to go if they need to access support.

“Because sporting clubs are such big community bases, they’ve been working through the clubs to engage that work as a means to get more avenues of support into the general community.”

The Accidental Counsellor course provides training in skills for active listening, effective questioning and de-escalation and grounding techniques to help someone who may be struggling with their mental health.

Ms Fitzgerald said the event, which will be held at the Reid Stockfeeds Function Centre on Campbell Street, will see a variety of activities throughout the day.

“We’ll have raffles to raise money for Lifeline – it’s mostly about getting the word out there about what Lifeline does and the supports people can access though Lifeline,” she said.

“Because it’s Ladies’ Day, we’ve invited local businesses which are predominately run by females running stalls.

“The basis is around women empowering women, but it comes back to community support and connection.

“Residents can purchase tickets on the door, and everyone is welcome to feel connected by those around them.”

Tickets are $20 per person.
