Special outings for Sunnyside residents
RESIDENTS at Sunnyside House enjoyed a number of outings last month as the Sunnyside Winter Appeal enters its final week.
The facility runs regular outings for residents, providing opportunities for residents to socialise, visit local attractions within the Corangamite Shire and reconnect with places held in their hearts.
Lifestyle coordinator Michelle Sammut said Sunnyside House ensured residents remained connected to the communities they helped build through the various excursions and outings held throughout the year.
“In May, residents enjoyed a memorable trip to the Port Campbell Hotel, where good food, conversation and spectacular coastal scenery combined for a wonderful day out,” she said.
“More recently, residents travelled to the Cobden Golf Club for lunch, enjoying both the hospitality and the chance to spend time together in a relaxed setting.
“Residents have also been exploring local history and attractions.
“A visit to the Camperdown Guide Hall gave many the opportunity to admire displays of vintage sewing machines, historic dresses and millinery, sparking conversations and memories of earlier times.
“Others have enjoyed Morning Melodies in Camperdown or Cobden, while outings to the Camperdown Botanic Gardens have provided opportunities to appreciate the beauty of the district and the changing seasons.”
Ms Sammut said some of the most impactful excursions have been the simpler ones, and even special incursions hosted in the soon-to-be-refurbished lounge area.
“Residents have visited farms that they or their parents once owned, worked on or lived near,” she said.
“Returning to these places offers a unique opportunity to reflect on how the district has changed over the years while sharing personal stories and memories with fellow residents and staff.
“These experiences are about much more than a day out.
“They help residents maintain their connection to the people, places and stories that have shaped their lives.
“They encourage conversation, spark memories and reinforce a sense of belonging within the broader community.”
The Sunnyside House Winter Appeal is entering its final week, with plans to finalise the appeal before the end of the financial year on June 30.
At the time of publication, the appeal has raised $89,035, with residents able to deduct their donations from their taxes.
Ms Sammut said every donation – whether large or small – can contribute to meaningful moments, strengthening social connections and enhancing the wellbeing of residents.
“Many of our residents have deep roots in this district,” she said.
“Whether it’s revisiting a farm, enjoying lunch with friends, listening to music or exploring local history, these outings help keep people connected to the community they know and love.
“As the financial year draws to a close, Sunnyside House encourages local residents and businesses to consider supporting the Winter Appeal and help us to continue to bring joy, connection and purpose to the lives of residents.
