Slow down: Two Melbourne men were caught driving at almost double the speed limit in Simpson on Sunday.

Cobden Police Senior Constable Ash Pitt said the two drivers were detected speeding at 113 km/m in a 60km zone in Simpson.

He said the two vehicles were travelling in convoy.

Snr Const Pitt said both vehicles – an Audi and a Landcruiser – were impounded immediately.

He said both male drivers could expect to be charged on summons with dangerous speed.

Snr Const Pitt said the Melbourne drivers, aged 24 and 25, were asked why they were travelling through the town at such high speeds.

He said they advised they were returning from a weekend away and wanted to get home at a reasonable hour.

“We remind drivers to obey the speed limit,” Snr Const Pitt said.

“We are getting a fair few people speed in the area; whether that be in Cobden or Simpson.”
