THERE was plenty of laughter, along with some tight competition, at last weekend’s Corangamite Sportsman’s Club annual sports day.

Held at the Camperdown Golf Club last Sunday afternoon, more than 60 competitors enjoyed a fun-filled day of golf, pool and bowls at various locations in Camperdown and Cobden.

Five clubs from across Victoria were represented on the day – Ballarat, Creswick, Bendigo, Colac and Corangamite.

Some of the competitors have been competing in the sports days for 30 years and always have a great time both on and off the sports grounds.

“It really was a wonderful day, full of sport and laughter,” Corangamite group secretary Andrew Benallack said.

“We had about 60 players on the day who shared stories and competed in their chosen sports.”

The winners were as follows:

Bowlers – Kevin Clohesy, Bernie Charlesson and Bob Seamans (Creswick); runners-up Peter James, Andrew Whiteside, Gary Fryers and Kevin Russell (Corangamite).

Golf mixed pairs – Ian Urquart and Greg McGlade (Corangamite); Brendan Maher and Graeme Long (Ballarat); runners-up Keith Baker, Andrew Narik, Peter Skene and Andrew Benallack (Corangamite).

Pool – Robin Cawthawn (Creswick), runner-up Peter Carr (Bendigo).

Many thanks to the golf club ladies for catering and to raffle sponsors for an amazing range of prizes; most people took home a prize or a trophy from the day.
