Sports stars honoured

CORANGAMITE Sportsmen’s Club announced the winners of its annual awards during a special presentation evening last week.

A crowd of more than 100 enjoyed the awards night, held at Bistro on Neylon in Cobden on Tuesday night.

Talented golfer George Beasley was named Senior Sports Star of the Year while teenage athlete Jarrod Ferguson received the Junior Sports Star of the Year award.

George’s award caps off a big year for the golfer, who won the 2025 Golf Victoria youth pennant final, competed in the Commonwealth Championships in Melbourne, represented the western region at Country Week and also played at the Port Phillip Open Amateur event.

Seventeen year-old Jarrod Ferguson had a successful year on the athletics track, claiming gold in round six of the Athletics Victoria under 18 cross country event, three gold medals at the GW Region Athletics, and competed in the All Australian School Track and Field Championships in Brisbane.

Junior Sports Star of the Year and October Junior of the Month - Jarrod Ferguson.

The Senior Team of the Year award was presented to the Mungean family (winners of the 2025 VIBBA mixed fours state title) while Camperdown’s 13 and under reserve netballers were named Junior Team of the Year in recognition of their Hampden League premiership.
