CAMARADERIE, fitness and fast-paced fun are on offer as the Terang Squash Club attempts to restore players after COVID-19 restrictions took a toll on membership numbers.

Terang Squash Club member Mark Smith put a call out to community members who may consider giving the sport a try.

“I’ve been a member for three and a half years, and I just love the activity, building up a sweat and the enjoyment of the social interaction,” he said.

“Intermingling with other adults in a fun and friendly environment, and we’ve got a diverse range of players with different skill levels to help each other progress."

“There is a lot of skill involved in squash but you can also just have a lot of fun hitting the ball to one another.”

Mr Smith said membership numbers had enjoyed a steady climb prior to the outbreak of COVID-19 across the globe.

Since then, membership numbers have fallen along with the financial stability of the club.

“It’s a friendly club but unfortunately there isn’t many new players joining the club despite this being the perfect weather to enjoy indoor sport,” Mr Smith said.

“The numbers have declined because of COVID; either nobody wanted to go out, or nobody was allowed to go out."

“We had a steady amount of money in the bank before COVID but because nobody was coming out, funds are dwindling down."

“Before COVID the club was running pennants every week with around 24 players, but COVID has hit and we’ve lost some players but anyone interested in joining is welcome to ring up and come along, or even come along on the night.”

The pennant season began this week and new or old players are welcome to jump in and give the sport a try; no experience needed.

Members meet at the Terang Squash Courts in Terang on a Tuesday evening from 7.30pm for practice and Wednesday evening from 7pm for pennant.

Cost for pennant is $10 per game (normally 10 games) and $20 insurance per pennant.

Tuesday nights are $5 per night.
