SAINT Patrick’s Primary School students joined more than one million children around the country in the National Simultaneous Storytime last Wednesday.

The event is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, family day cares, childcare centres, family homes,

bookshops and many other places around the country.

This year's book was The Speedy Sloth written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Heath McKenzie.

The event, now in its 23rd year, and aims to promote the importance of reading for pleasure and as a shared experience.

St Patrick’s students watched a live reading of the book by the author from Sydney Zoo, learnt how to draw the characters or spent time investigating the process of creating a children's book.
