Strong field at rifle club

A NEW Year’s Day prize meet attracted 37 competitors to the Port Campbell Rifle Club.
The day proved a huge success and included the introduction of a hunter class rifle section to the program for the first time.
Competitors travelled from all over Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and one from Queensland.
Two 10-shot details and one 15-shot detail – all at 600 yards – featured on the program.
The hunter class discipline allowed the shooter to use any commercially available hunting or varmint type rifle of suitable caliber.
Hunter class was included into the standard shooting rules a few years ago by the governing body as a way of attracting more people in to the sport.
It is gaining popularity, with most clubs gaining some extra members, and it is now included in most competitions.
It is also a great way for hunters to hone their skills and learn long range shooting techniques, safe hand loading for accuracy and rifle set-up.
Anyone wanting more information on any disciplines on offer can contact Paul Jeffery on 0409 437 569.
