Strong field contests Shadwell Classic

MIXED pairs are now in progress at the Mortlake Bowling Club.

Round one results saw B and K Johnson def G and I MacDonald; G and B Draffen def C Baxter and R Pasque; and S Pierce and D Robertson def D Dolling and J Grant.

Quarter final results and draw – B and K Johnston lost to L and A Johnson; G and B Draffen v C and T Inverarity; C and M Goldsworthy v A Wood and S Richie; S Pierce and D Robertson v P Beardsley and G Kenna.

Players and supporters are reminded to keep an eye out for live bowls action this Friday as games will be taking place throughout the day.

Last Monday 16 teams competed in the 2026 Westvic Tyres Shadwell Classic tournament.

Teams travelled from across the district, including Derrinallum, Dunkeld, Timboon, Terang, City Memorial, Warrnambool, Koroit, Dennington and Bendigo to try and snag the top prize.

After four games of 10 ends, there were three teams that were undefeated on the day.

In third place with four wins +24 shots was the Mortlake/City team of Peter Summerhayes, Kevin O’Keefe, David Sedgley and Gerald Madden.

The runners-up for the day with four wins +31 shots was the Koroit team of Scott Boschen, Blackie Lenehan, Steve Butler and Damien Coolahan.

But one team stood out from the pack on the day, with four wins +42 shots, was the City/Koroit side of Brock Wescombe, Andrew Prewett, Ian Swain and Sandy McAllion.

Many thanks to everyone who played on Labour Day Monday and a massive thank you to all the members that helped make the day an amazing one.

Autumn twilight bowls is sadly coming to a close this week as the finals loom.

By the time this is published, it will have been run and won but the leadup to the final was quite the battle.

Hello Kitty kicked off the season with a bang and topped the table for a few weeks, then TGT87 claimed the top spot from them.

Meanwhile, the battle for second place was getting red hot.

First, it was Doosies, then Coles Coaches, but The Bowling Stones rose up and met the challenge.

Results from the conclusion of the 2026 Autumn Twilight Bowls season will feature in next week’s edition.

A reminder of the upcoming events:

The Club Fours Championship and presentation day is now on Saturday, March 28 - look for the signup sheet in the box near the main entrance.

A private function has been booked on Saturday, March 14.

Nominations are now open for the Merv Suhan Clubperson of the Year Award.

To nominate someone who has gone above and beyond for the club, nominations can be directed to a board member.
