SIMPSON’S senior footballers celebrated win number four last weekend with a 44-point victory over the Western Eagles.
Playing in front of a home crowd on Saturday, the Tigers led from the first bounce, kicking two goals three to two goals one in the first quarter and then extending their lead to nine points by the half-time break.
The third term saw the Eagles reign in the gap to get within a goal by three-quarter time but the Tigers came back strong in the last, adding eight majors for the term while holding the visitors to just one goal two.
Final scores were Simpson 13.11.89 to Western Eagles 6.4.40.
Nicholas Harding had a great day in front of goals, bagging seven for the match, while Jono Jennings contributed three, Thomas Leishman added two and Darcy Leishman also kicked a goal.
Darcy Leishman, Harding, Thomas Leishman, Gus Hawkes, Kyle Clemmens and Matthew Drayton were all named in the best for the Tigers.
The win capped off a memorable day for the team’s skipper, Darcy Leishman, who ran out for his 200th game on Saturday.
Leishman, fondly referred to as ‘Slippa’ is a loyal club member and a great role model to the Tigers’ younger members.
A former junior coach, Leishman is now a life member of the Tigers.
Also reaching the 200-game milestone on the weekend, and becoming a life member, was Jason Kordupel.
Kordupel is also a highly valued club member and has been referred to as the “heart beat” of the club’s reserve side that is on the march towards finals.
He is well known as the ‘ultimate ressie’ who always puts the club first.
Simpson’s reserves also had a great day out and now sit third on the league ladder, a game clear of Lorne in fourth.
Last weekend’s percentage booster saw the Tigers enjoy a 93-point win over the Eagles, 13.16.94 to 0.1.1.
Rohan Johns, Rhys Ziegelaar, Cooper Neal, Jacob Pekin, Archie Rial and Sam Rix were among the best for the side.
Johns kicked three for the day while other contributors on the board were Drew Kordupel and Jason McVilly with two apiece, Jack Hawkes, Luke Kensit Jason Kordupel, Cooper Neal, Sam Rix and Rhys Ziegelaar.
The Tigers’ under 18 side fought hard but went down to the fifth-placed Eagles, 4.5.29 to 8.11.59.
Best for the Tigers were Bodhi Crole, Oliver Rial, Louis Duynhoven, Geordie Ferrari, Isaac Holland and Louis Janssen.
Ferrari kicked three while Oliver Rial kicked one.
