THE historical Purrumbete Homestead has been listed for sale, giving someone a chance to own a piece of the district’s history.
The property, which boasts 10 bedrooms and has gained National Trust Heritage status was expected to sell for at least $10 million.
Steeped in history, this highly distinguished Federation Arts and Crafts home (c.1842) is a tangible remnant of the 19th century Manifold family pastoral dynasty in Western Victoria.
Recognised as one of the finest remaining stately homes of its kind ‘Purrumbete’ homestead encompasses excellence, grandeur, sophistication and prestige, epitomising luxury rural living.
Situated about 10 minutes from Camperdown township, the homestead includes two kilometres of absolute frontage to Lake Purrumbete, and 531.1 acres overall.
According to the property information memorandum the property features impressive Art Nouveau interiors, showcasing unique timber carvings and historical murals painted by renowned artist Walter Withers in 1901.
“The meticulously preserved homestead is perfectly positioned among beautifully established parklike grounds and is exquisitely elevated to capture far-reaching panoramic views across Lake Purrumbete,” the memorandum states.
“A flagship property of this calibre is very rarely offered to market. Astute purchasers will immediately recognise the unique characteristics that make ‘Purrumbete’ one of Victoria’s most attractive rural estates.”
As well as restored living quarters, the property has three renovated cottages. Farming improvements include extensive machinery shedding, workshop, original stables and cattle yards.
Rural property consultant Tom Luxton from Elders Rural Services in Warrnambool said the property was for sale via expressions of interest.
“It’s been on the market for a few weeks now,” he said.
“We’ve had very strong interest and a number of inspections.”
