Strong opposition for Cobden
ROUND two of midweek pennant has been completed, with both Cobden bowls sides playing at home and competing against a strong Winchelsea contingent.
Division one got a reality check, moving from first place to fifth after facing a very strong Winchelsea.
They managed to only lose by 23 shots 51-74 but couldn’t collect any points with all rinks being defeated.
The same fate was experienced by division three, however their margin was much greater 28-88, dropping them to fifth spot also.
Division two in weekend pennant redeemed themselves defeating City 2, 124-75 on City’s home turf.
This has elevated Cobden to fourth on the ladder.
In a close game P. Howard, B. Whittaker, P. Nolan and M. Nolan were beaten by Colin Hammond, Micheal Hickey, Brendan Hutt and Bazil Hammond 24-27.
Nick Kemp, Terry Beasley, Greg Rooke and Tom Robertson took control to defeat D. Tebble, A. Bamford, D. Cowan and R. Tebble 33-17.
Noah Mungean, Kathryn Robertson, Ashley Sinnott and Murray Williamson defeated T. Bartlett, F. Robbins, I. McMahon and S. Hickey 24-18.
Darren Mulgrew, Brendan Hammond, Peter Richardson and Mitch Reed overwhelmed L. Inglis, R. Copeland, D. Lawrence and V. Brown 40-16.
Division three played neighbouring town rivals Camperdown Magpies 4 at the Golf rink.
The weather stopped all ends from being played, but a result was achieved with the home side getting home 71-64.
Janelle Rohan, Claire Reynolds, Jim O’Shea and Bert Strampel lost 10-15 to T. Hose, P. Halloran, B. Dickson and D. Watts.
David Staggard, Jill, Lynch, Ken Lynch and Brian Howard dominated all day to win 24-11 over P. Brebner, D. O’Donohue, B. Sloetjes and J. Boyd.
R. Absalom, G. Brodrick, M. Rippon and J. Molan defeated Trevor Roberts, Garry Matheson, Kath Spokes and Don Anderson 22-15.
Richard Mc Villy, Pat Hickey, Colin Spokes and Janine Hutt were closing the gap but lost to D. Page, P. James, B. Noonan and P. Robertson 15-23.
Cobden has maintained third position on the ladder, with Simpson nipping at their heels with a lesser percentage.
Division four played at home again, but this time was dominated by Colac 4, 41-80.
The team has slipped to fifth on the ladder, but are equal to third placed Derrinallum and fourth placed Colac 5 in points.
All teams will be playing at Cobden on Saturday.
