Strong results for bowlers
THE final round of bowls before the Christmas break ended with some mixed results for Cobden Bowling Club members.
In midweek division one pennant, Cobden made the long trip to Winchelsea to face the ladder leaders on their home turf.
Winchelsea took the points in another strong showing, defeating Cobden 96-66.
The only point scored for the day was a draw, 24 all, between P. Ward, I. Holmes, J. Johnson and W. Walters and Janelle Rohan, Ken Lynch, Geoff Ovens and Doreen Coverdale.
Cobden remains in sixth position, a game clear of Simpson and Colac 2.
In division three, Cobden has slipped to fifth spot after losing to Central 2, 35-65.
Claire Reynolds, Leon Carrigan and Des Couch battled hard with one player down to only lose 14-18 to E. Ivermee, B. Tucker, D. Arnall and G. Finn.
Joy Beaton, Evelyn Grayland, David Luker and Pam Savage lost 10-21 to D. Phillips, V. Barrow, L. Lenehan and K. Black.
Ken Coverdale, Janine Hutt, Ann Coverdale and Colleen Johnson lost 11-26 to M. Gove, R. Foiley, J. Dare and J. Russell.
Cobden’s division two weekend pennant side remains fourth on the ladder despite losing 81-93 to Camperdown Magpies 3 played at the Camperdown Golf venue.
They remain two games clear of fifth placed City 2.
Tom Spokes, L. Gungl, Tim Spokes and M. Mahony won 23-16 against Nick Kemp, Ben Robertson, Tom Robertson and Lachie Taylor.
C. McLeod, L. Fitzgerald, E. Waterfall and J. Molan won 28-18 over Micheal Hickey, Colin Hammond, Peter Richardson and Bazil Hammond.
G.Winsall, M. Winsall, D. O’Donohue and N. Saligari lost to Noah Mungean, Kathryn Roberson, Ashley Sinnott and Murray Williamson 17-24.
S. Adeney, A. White, K. Conheady and R. Bourke scraped in 25-23 over Darren Mulgrew, Brendan Hammond, Brendan Hutt and Mitch Reed.
Division three had a nail biter at Simpson to go down by two shots, 80-78.
Simpson’s skipper Terry Harris picked the kitty up from a toucher and moved it back to gain four shots and get them over the line on the last end of the day.
T. Harris, B. Newcombe, A. Beasy and C. Worden won 25-14 over Garry Metheson, Claire Reynolds, David Childs and Don Anderson.
A. Swayn, T. Lucas, S. Ryan and M. Gass lost 20-26 to Janelle Rohan, Richard McVilly, P. Hickey and G. Ovens.
M. Seabrook, D. Parker, C. Dixon and K. Woodmason lost 15-17 to David Staggard, Leon Carrigan, Colin Spokes and Brian Howard.
R. Yendall, T. Leslie, G. Langenhauizen and K. Convey lost after leading most of the day to Trevor Roberts, Janine Hutt, Kath Spokes and Jeff Hester 20-21.
That keeps Cobden in fourth place, ahead of Camperdown Magpies 4 by percentage only.
Division four achieved a win at the pacy Cressy green 57-62, allowing them to climb into fifth place before the break.
G. Bath, N. Cahill, L. Butler and G. Theodore lost 16-17 in a close game with Doreen Coverdale, Ken Farquharson, Ken Coverdale and Bill Johnson.
E. Stinchcombe, D. Lang, M. Rodgers and G. Cahill lost 19-26 to Joy Beaton, Evelyn Grayland, David Luker and Loreign Andrews.
C. Bath, J. Lang, J. Nelson and M. Matheson won 22-19 over Paul Dwyer, Rex Perkins, Keith Lander and Des Couch.
Midweek pennant has resumed after the Christmas break.
Division one remains in sixth position after a draw (66 all) with Colac 1 who are fifth.
The match was played at home in Cobden.
Cobden was three shots down with two rinks on its last end.
Ann Scott’s team managed to get four shots on their last end, putting Cobden one shot ahead.
Trevor Robert’s rink was holding one shot thanks to David Childs, however Allen Jones managed to steal the kitty and keep it, giving Colac 1 the end and drawing the match.
Ann Scott, Kath Spokes, Bazil Hammond and Loreign Andrews drew 23 all with E. Hay, D. Harty, G. McNabb and N. Quigley.
Janelle Rohan, Leon Carrigan, Geoff Ovens and Dorren Coverdale lost 14-24 against A. Dudley, M. Coates, P. Neale and G. Gourley.
Trevor Roberts, Sue Couch, David Childs and Brian Howard won 28-19 against G. Nelson, A. Jone, T. Uwland and D. Donovan.
Division three travelled to the dome in Colac and disappointingly lost to sixth place Colac 4, 74-51, demoting Cobden to fifth on the ladder.
W. Winchcomb, E. Riches, J. Bowley and J. Robbins lost to Jill Lynch, Ken Farquharson, Ken Lynch and Jeff Hester 21-27.
M. Middleton, P. Maher, J. Middleton and G. Riches won 27-17 over Joy Beaton, Paul Dwyer, Evelyn Grayland and Pam Savage.
B. Panther, A. Maher, M. Halliday and D. Mackay defeated Claire Rynolds, Colin Spokes, Ken Coverdale and Des Couch 26-7.
The club championships were played recently.
Terry Beasley defeated Trevor Roberts in the semi-final, whileDarren Mulgrew defeated Peter Richardson.
Darren got away to a good start, leading 13-1 in the grand final, however Terry was able to persevere to get the win 25-23 in a great contest.
In the women’s championships Ann Scott defeated Kathryn Robertson 25-14.
Both winners will represent the region in Colac.
