Strong results from Mortlake bowlers
MORTLAKE bowlers enjoyed the ninth round of division three, midweek pennant last week.
Mortlake 1 Purple defeated Timboon 3 Red 34-31 at home.
Glenice Kenna lost to Jack Neal 11-18 while Dianne Robertson defeated Mark McKenzie 23-13.
The team selection for the game against Port Fairy 3 Red (away) wasn’t available before deadline. Please see the selection board for more information.
Tuesday social pennant was also played last week.
The results from round eight were:
Mortlake Blue defeated Cobden Red 39-33 at home while Mortlake White had the bye.
Mortlake Blue is still top of the table with 62 points and Mortlake White is now four points behind them, with Camperdown third on 48.
This week for round nine, Mortlake Blue will have the bye and Mortlake White will play Terang at Terang.
Round eight weekend pennant saw Mortlake Blue (division one) defeat Port Fairy 1 Red 59-44 away.
Colin Goldsworthy def Simon Cullinane 23-21, Les Johnson def Damian Riches 15-10 and Darren Grant def John Carlin 21-13.
Mortlake Blue is fourth on the ladder, one point behind Warrnambool 1 Gold, six points behind second-placed City 1 Red and two points ahead of fifth placed Warrnambool 2 Blue.
Mortlake White (division two) lost to Warrnambool 4 Green 48-63 away.
Paul Delaney lost to Bernie Crowe 13-21, Ala Puzey lost to Alan Campbell 18-20 and Clive Baxter lost to Stephen Vick 17-22.
Mortlake White is now in fifth place, seven points behind Warrnambool 4 Green in fourth.
Mortlake Gold (division three) defeated City 9 Orange 56-27 at home.
Don Murray def Clive Rayner 34-8 and Glenice Kenna def Ray McNulty 22-19.
Mortlake Gold is now in fourth, four points ahead of Port Fairy 4 Green and eight points behind City 10 Black in third.

Twilight bowls has finished for 2024; a wrap-up of the summer season will feature in next week’s edition.
Twilight bowls is a great introduction to the sport, with players of all skill levels (especially beginners) most welcome to give bowls a go in a family-friendly environment.
