Strong round from Camperdown bowlers

ROUND nine of Saturday pennant saw Camperdown’s division one side host Colac City.

Hoping for a close encounter against the stronger side, Camperdown started well on all rinks.

This set them up for a substantial lead by the half-time tea break.

Darren Coverdale, Barry Atchison, Lud Gungl and Henry Henderson played the rink of Gary Morrissy and had a close battle all day, winning 22-21.

Luke Wright, Lennie Searle, Darren Page and Harry Van Someron played City’s top skipper Stuart Trigg in what proved to be another close game, going down by just two shots, 23-21.

The rink of Ron Cameron, Fred Salmon, Kevin Rundle and Brad Wilson came up against Steve O’Dowd’s side.

While the lead changed several times, Cameron’s rink picked up shots in the final ends to prevail 29-26.

Matt Brewer, Maria Van Someron, Vicki Brebner and Ray Bourke led the way with some excellent bowling to defeat Rebecca McMahon’s rink 31-10.

Overall, division one triumphed over Colac City 102-80.

This win put Camperdown in to the top four for the first time this season.

Camperdown’s division three team also hosted a side from Colac City.

Ron Absalom, Bert Sloetjes, Max Rippon and Jim Boyd played John Mills’ team and won 31-15.

Graeme Chamberlain, Herm Brebner, Stan Adeney and Graeme Taylor lost to David Biddle’s side 15-19.

David Coverdale, Tom Hose, Pat Atchison and Gordon Weller found themselves up against City’s Bruce Whittaker and went down 16-25.

Another win was recorded by Les Pearson, Les Dorman, Brent Noonan and Gerard Broderick, defeating John Neal’s rink 23-13.

The overall score saw Camperdown take the win, 85-72.

Division five travelled to Birregurra.

A small defeat was recorded by Ton Vermaas, Phillip Robertson, Donna Watts and Deborah Noonan, 44-11.

Barney Dickson, Graham Bradshaw, Nick Saligari and Judy Borthwick went down to Edward Williamson’s rink 25-18.

Overall, this was a 69-30 loss for Camperdown.

The Camperdown team of Bread Wilson (s), Lennie Searle and Kelvin Rundle travelled to Timboon last Wednesday where they scored a first place in the triples competition.

Camperdown sits on top of the midweek bowls pennant after some strong results last week.

The midweek teams headed to Colac to play Central Bowling Club.

Ron Simcox, David (Brad) Wilson, Debbie Noonan and Les Pearson played Joan Waler’s team.

Ron’s team started well and led 10-2 by the sixth end.

Central held them on 10 shots for the next six ends until they got two on the 12th to lead 12-8.

Going into the last five ends Camperdown led by only five shots, 15-10, before Central picked up three on the next end.

Camperdown rallied and won the last four ends to win the match 25-13.

Ian (Henry) Henderson stepped up and skipped on rink four against Adrian Tessellar’s team.

Henry’s team, which included Graeme Chamberlain, Ray Bourke and Donna Watts, also started well and led 13-0 on the sixth end.

On the next six ends Camperdown only managed to score three shots to 10 but maintained a 16-10 lead.

With the all-important last five ends, Camperdown led by six shots but they scored on three of the five ends to win 24-15.

Vicki Brebner, Barry Atchison, Kerry Henderson and Stan Adeney played Desmon Ladham’s team on the final rink.

This game started off close for the first six ends but Vicki’s team won 16-1 over the next six ends which blew the score out to 20-6.

By the time it got to the last five ends they held a 25-11 lead.

They then went on to score on three of the final five ends to win 30-14.

Camperdown now sits on top of the ladder, followed by Camperdown Golf, Winchelsea, Colac, City and Central.

Next week is the final week for the year and Camperdown will welcome Winchelsea.
