The Lakers sent the home team in to bat in the match at the Elliminyt Recreation Reserve, with City United making 9/287 led by 110 to captain Rani Jamieson.

“Jamieson batted really well, he probably only gave us one opportunity which we missed when he was in his 90s,” Camperdown captain Steve Fisher said.

James O’Neil was the best of the Lakers bowlers with 1/23 from eight overs, with Karan Brar 1/48 from 10, and Noah Riches with 2/42 from 10 also doing well.

“James bowled pretty well, while they got away early he was the one who tightened it up at one end.

“Karan bowled stump to stump, while Noah bowled a couple of good spells and got rewarded with some wickets at the end.”

The Lakers made over 200 for the third week in a row but fell short, all out for 228 in the 45th over.

Opener Jye McLaughlin top scored with 57 from 68 balls, with Karan Brar making 47 from 51.

“Jye again played good cricket shots, the ground was quick so the reward was there for hitting the ball well.

“Karan batted really well and was good at putting away the bad ball.”

Fisher said the Lakers were doing a lot right but still needed to be better in some areas.

“It was pleasing to see guys get starts but we need them to push on with it once they get in.

“Batting wise we felt we were in the game for much of it, we just didn’t have the power at the end.”

This week Camperdown host Cobden at SA Wright Oval.

In division three, Camperdown hosted Pomborneit at SA Wright Oval and suffered a 10 wicket loss.

Batting first, the Lakers were dismissed for just 59 in the 30th over, with Rick McKenzie top scoring with 18.

Pomborneit coasted to victory in the 20th over without losing a wicket.

Camperdown’s women were washed out on Wednesday night, while the under 13 Lakers had a win over Boorcan on Monday night, with Beau Smith and Eddie Gellie both making 20 retired.

In this week’s games, Camperdown’s division three team play Heytesbury-Princetown at Princetown, the Lakers women play Cobden Gold while the under 13s play the Storm at Timboon.
