Strong start continues for Lions

NEWCOMERS to the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association, Noorat Terang, have continued their unblemished start to the season with a win over Merrivale last weekend.

The recently-merged Lions followed up from their opening round victory over Nirranda, defeating the Tigers at Noorat last Saturday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the visitors set the chase at 10-131 after 39 overs.

Opener Nicholas Sinnott proved strong with the bat, knocking 39 before being caught in the field, while Jeremy Burgess also added to the board with 19 from 37 balls.

Best of the bowlers for the Lions were captain Liam Geary 3-8 off five and Isaac Kenna who took 3-18 off six.

In reply, the Lions finished the day at 4/132 after 33 overs.

Opener David Conheady was effective with the bat, hitting 33 from 48 balls which included four boundaries.

Gus Bourke contributed a handy unbeaten 32 runs while Isaac Kenna was run out on 24 and Bailey Kavenagh was not out on 21.
