Strong start to the season

AFTER a round one bye, Lismore’s cricketers have kicked off their 2025/26 season with a four wicket win over Lexton in the round two clash at the Lismore Recreation Reserve.

Lexton won the toss and elected to bat and were dismissed in the 37th over for 138.

“Our bowlers were really good,” Lismore co-captain Clint Dudman said.

“Hayden Brett and Kelly Brain in particular started us off really well with early dot ball pressure.”

Brett, with 1/14 from 6.5 overs, and Brain, with 1/28 from eight overs, proved economical.

Left armer Charlie Brett picked up three wickets, with two each to Lachie Constable and Hely De Silva.

Sri Lankan De Silva, who was on debut for Lismore, impressed Dudman.

“Hely is working at the Lismore pub, it was his first game in about five years, he really enjoyed it.

“He’s a fairly handy medium pacer and bats well too, he’ll be a real asset with a few more games and training sessions under his belt.”

Lismore got off to a strong start in the run chase via opener Lachie Constable, who hit 58 from 57 balls including five fours and a six.

“Lachie started us off really well, he’s one of the best batsmen in the comp.”

While Lismore lost a few quick middle order wickets, the game was mostly in control throughout the innings.

Scott Walker, with an unbeaten 36, and Kelly Brain with 12 not out guided the home team to victory.

“Scott and Kelly just batted sensibly and did the right things to get us home.

“It was really good to start off with a win like that.”

This week Lismore travel to Linton, with harvest now affecting availability.

“It looks like we will have five away with harvest for a bit now, we’ll really have to work on scratching a team together.”
