Strong start to Twenty20 campain

POMBORNEIT’S division one team has kicked off its Twenty20 campaign with wins over Woorndoo and Heytesbury-Princetown.

Dave Murphy hit the first ball of the day for four against Woorndoo as he and Tom Darcy, elevated to open in the Twenty20 competition, put on 70 for the first wicket.

Murphy made 43 from 33 balls including five fours, while Tom Darcy’s run-a-ball 33 included three fours.

Grant Place moved things along with 42 from 20 balls, hitting six fours and a six as the Bulls finished on 7/159.

After an early wicket to Stephen Hill, Woorndoo put on 52 for the second wicket until Finn Tolland broke through to finish the partnership.

Tharaka Sendanayake then ripped through the Woorndoo middle order, finishing with 3/21 from his four overs as the visitors were restricted to 7/112 from their 20 overs, Pomborneit recording a 47-run win.

In the second game, Pomborneit batted first and Dave Murphy was on fire, making 50 from 43 balls.

Grant Place and Tharaka Sendanayake both made 20, Sam Darcy finishing the innings off with an explosive unbeaten 27 from 18 balls as the Bulls finished on 4/150 from their 20 overs.

A wicket in the first over to Sendanayake put Pomborneit on top early; the Bulls claiming regular wickets to restrict Heytesbury-Princetown to 8/97 from their 20 overs.

Sendanayake with 3/15 and Danussika Bandara with 2/11 were the best of the bowlers, with a wicket each to Gavin Reynolds, Finn Tolland and Jack Darcy in Pomborneit’s 53-run win.

This Saturday's Twenty20 games see the Bulls host Camperdown and Cobden at MCP Oval.

The division two Bulls batted first in their game at Timboon, making 7/152from their 40 overs.

Luke Reynolds top scored with 48 including six fours and a six, with other contributions coming from Tim Whitehead (28) and Daniel Missen (20).

Opening bowlers Charlie Voutier and Stephen Walters tore through the home team’s top order, Voutier taking 2/21 and Walters 3/27 while juniors Levi Cootesmith (2/14 from five in his second senior game) and Josh Reynolds (1/17 from five on his senior debut) took their first wickets at senior level as Heytesbury-Princetown were bowled out for 124 in the 38th over.

The division three Bulls travelled to Woorndoo and batting first had to work hard for their runs, making 6/112 from 40 overs.

Skipper Tony Evans top scored with 30, Simon Tolland made 22 and Fletcher Tolland recorded his highest senior score of 20.

The Woorndoo run chase was tight all the way through, the home team passing the Bulls score eight wickets down in the 38th over, junior players Ollie Delaney and Fletcher Tolland taking two wickets each.

Both Pomborneit women’s teams lost on Sunday, for Pomborneit Gold it was their first loss of the season.

Skipper Samantha Coxon top scored with 32 retired and took two wickets in Gold’s loss to Bookaar, while Janelle Whitehead top scored with 30 retired in Maroon's loss to Colac at MCP Oval.

The under 17 girls scored another good win on Sunday with a 44 run win over Irrewarra at Colac's Western Oval.

Batting first, Pombo made 5/90 from their 20 overs, Jada Mahony making her fourth 30 retired for the season (she is yet to be dismissed in the competition).

Other contributions came from Nellie Sadler with 14, Lucia Clarke with 10 retired and Saraha Bridges with six retired.

A strong bowling performance saw Irrewarra all out for 46, Nellie Sadler taking 3/3, with a wicket each to Lily Van Es, Sarah Bridges, Chloe Bridges and Neave Thompson.

The under 17 boys continued their good form with a 30-run win over Colac Burnett on Tuesday night.

Levi Cootesmith top scored with 21 in the Bulls total of 8/107, Ben Whytcross retired and came back late in the innings to finish on 20 not out, while Ollie Delaney reached the 30 ball retirement mark for the first time, retiring on 11.

In reply Colac was all out for 77; two wickets each to Gavin Reynolds, Ben Whytcross and Bradey Fratantaro.

The under 16 boys were well beaten by Bookaar on Sunday, Ben Whytcross with 21 and Levi Cootesmith with 16 the best of the batters, while Gavin Reynolds, Nate Castle and Jonty Raven took a wicket each.

The under 14 boys had a tight win over Irrewarra Black on Friday night; the visitors making 7/115 with wickets to Jonty Raven, Ollie West, Nate Castle, Sam McConachy and Josh Reynolds, while in the Bulls total of 123 Nate Castle made 35 and Josh Reynolds 25.

Pomborneit Maroon under 13 boys had a seven run loss at Timboon on Friday night, Miller Murphy had a great game with 21 retired and three wickets, while Joel Hinkley also made 21 retired.

Gold under 13 boys made it three wins in a row with a 64 run win at Boorcan on Monday night; Noah Boyd top scoring with 15 retired in Gold’s 5/86, while Boyd and Ollie Rahles-Rahbula led the way with two wickets each as Boorcan were bowled out for 22.

The Pomborneit Gold Under 13 girls lost to Tomahawk Creek at Irrewillipe, Isla Spokes top scoring with 17, while Charlotte Richardson had a strong all round game, making 12 and taking 2 wickets. The Pomborneit Maroon Under 13 girls had the bye.
