Strong support for early X-mas
STRONG crowds turned out to bring some festive cheer early by turning back the clock over the weekend.

Demby McKenzie held two special Christmas in July performances last Saturday and Sunday, seeing 100 people per performance enjoying hits from 1954 – the year the film White Christmas was released.
Mr McKenzie said the crowd contained a strong mix of people from Camperdown and Warrnambool, as well as many music fans.
He said one of the biggest highlights of the show was being able to perform with Serenata co-founder Matthew Lim.
“Having Matthew was a highlight for most people because they hadn’t seen him before – it was his first time performing in Camperdown,” Mr McKenzie said.
“He is definitely one of the best musicians the south west has produced.
“His violin and his special, unique take on style was certainly a highlight.”
Songs covered during the performances included music from the films White Christmas and Singing in the Rain, as well as well-known songs from Bing Crosby and Doris Day.
Mr McKenzie said another highlight was being able to perform on stage with his siblings Toby, Madidi and Matea in quartet numbers.
“We also had Laura McKenzie come back home from Geelong to sing a solo,” he said.
“I don’t think many people have heard her sing for many years, and it was definitely a jaw-hitting-the-ground kind of moment when she belted out her song.
“I’m so pleased with how the performances went. Lots to talk about, and lots to be happy about.
“We’re so grateful for the community and their support, and we’re so grateful for the feedback people give.
“It’s a credit to the community and how they get behind events that bring the community together. It’s wonderful to see.”
Mr McKenzie said he, along with Serenata members Mr Lim and James Philpot, have already begun plans for their January Gala, with hopes to perform in Camperdown and Warrnambool.
“We have plenty of plans to continue events in the south west,” he said.
“The next one I’ve got on the agenda is a little bit of a regional tour of another concert, which should start in Hamilton next month.”
