A Gaga Pit was installed over the school holidays, much to the delight of students.

Gaga Ball is Australia’s fastest growing schoolyard game, mixing handball and dodgeball in a way which can be enjoyed by up to 20 students of all abilities.

The school was able to fund the Gaga Pit through a $3000 grant from Mortlake South Wind Farm developer Acciona.

St Colman’s Primary School principal Janet Cain said the funding was originally considered for a separate project but complications left the school needing to make a new plan, which provided a perfect opportunity for the school council to use its voice.

“The Gaga Pit was something the student council voted on what they wanted to use the money for, and this was quickly identified as what the students wanted,” she said.

“Student agency is something we’re putting a strong focus on this year, with the introduction of our student representative council and making our students feel like they have opportunities to have an input in what happens at school, what they learn and how they spend their play time.

“It was installed over the holidays and since returning to school all the students have been lining up at lunch time to use it.

“We’ve had some beautiful sunny weather this week, which makes it even better.”

Game on: Students “love” the new addition, according to principal Janet Cain.
