A SAINT Patrick’s Primary School student got a very special birthday present on Tuesday when she was awarded a national prize.
Olivia Barber won the national level Newspower-supported Easter Colouring Competition, a competition she entered and won at the Camperdown Newsagency.
Olivia received a $100 voucher to spend at the newsagency, with St Patrick’s Primary School receiving a $500 voucher.
Olivia said she was excited to win but was overwhelmed when presented at her school on Tuesday.
St Patrick’s Primary School principal Tim Bourke said the school community was delighted for Olivia, and felt the reward was an “extra special present” for her birthday.
Camperdown Newsagency owner Noela McCann said Olivia’s win was special for the community and the town.
“I think it’s something the town can be proud of because it’s a national competition, so for us as the store we’re very proud of her,” she said.
“Every year we invite our local primary schools and kindergartens to enter our Newspower-supported Easter Colouring Competition; we display entries in the window, and this year we chose Olivia as the winner for our four to seven-year age group.
“Her entry was then sent off to the National Judges in late April and Olivia won this as well.
“Congratulations.”
