Student concepts deliver new playground

NOORAT Primary School students were jumping for joy this week after a new playground was officially opened at the school.
The new facilities have been in the pipeline for around six months, according to school principalIlona Watkins.
“We worked out in the budget last year that we had some money to spend, and we had to move an older playground a couple of years ago which wasn’t safe anymore,”she said.
“With that in mind our Parents and Friends Association helped to raise some money to design a new playground.”
Ms Watkins said the students had taken an active role in the design of the new playground, providing input and ideas for what the finished product should look like.
“Students from Prep to Year six did all the research, talked about what they wanted and held surveys,” she said.
“We sent that off to the prospective playground companies, and from that they sent us back designs."
“Certain things were added or deleted, but the students were part of the process from the very beginning."
“They have been patient during a few delays due to COVID, as it was supposed to be in over the summer holidays, but they are well and truly ready for it.”
Ms Watkins said the students had watched the constructions process over three days last week with a mixture of excitement and anxious patience, and from this week had quickly found a new favourite place to play.
The completed metal design included a wobbling balance bridge, flying fox, climbing wall, ascending stepping stones and crawl tunnels.
Most importantly, the new equipment earned the tick of approval from the students
“They’re very excited,” Ms Watkins said.
“I think every student spent recess on the new playground on Monday."
“They didn’t want to be anywhere else.”
