THE main street of Camperdown was a sea of colour as Camperdown College junior campus students flooded the pavement in front of the Clocktower with Book Week excitement.

Celebrating 2022 Book Week with the theme of “Dreaming with eyes open”; students were encouraged to come dressed as a character from their favourite book and engage in a day of activities and excitement.

Junior Campus librarian and teacher Lauren Murphy said Book Week was always a highlight on the calendar at the Junior Campus.

Book Week started with the parade down the main street on Monday where students spied books local businesses had placed in their shop windows, listened to guest readers share some of their favourite books and enjoyed looking at the wonderful costumes students had donned for the occasion.

“It was so lovely to have guest readers, mayor Ruth Gstrein, Shane McCann from the Camperdown Newsagency, Michelle Elijah from Benallacks and author Georgia Lillie, who read her recently published book ‘My Dad is an Eagle Now’,” Ms Murphy said.

It was not just the students who took to the day with eagerness, with teaching staff making the most of the opportunity to dress up and dream with their eyes open.

“The teachers also had a lot of fun drawing inspiration as Crayola Crayons and were delighted to provide a wonderful day for students,” Ms Murphy said.
