The students walked across town to perform a number of songs and choreographed dances, much to the delight of residents.

St Colman’s Primary School principal Janet Cain said the visit was one of the school’s end of year highlights.

“We visit twice a term throughout the year, with our senior and middle students coming up once each year,” she said.

“They do a craft activity, or some kind of activity, with the residents.

“This is the culmination of those visits, coming along to perform our Christmas songs.

“It’s good for the children to relate Christmas to doing something nice for others, and to share a bit of the joy.”

The students went around the room after their performance with hand-made Christmas cards filled with thoughtful sentiments, and spoke with the residents.

“We try to encourage them to make a connection with someone else because Christmas can be a lonely time,” Mrs Cain said.

“Any company is good.”
