Students gain leadership skills
CAMPERDOWN College has welcomed four students back from a special trip to Dinner Plain recently.

The students – Isla Spokes, Amber Wallis, Sam Tolland and Ollie Horspole – returned from a School for Student Leadership program held at the Alpine campus.
The program, which was held over term two, provides Year Nine students with an opportunity to learn from experiences rather than just from a classroom.
Sam said the group had all grown from the experience, adding it was “valuable” for all of them.
“A highlight from our learning while at the alpine school was how we worked together to manage group activities,” he said.
“This ensured team tasks that we completed, such as bridge building, a community learning project and committees, were equal while still productive.
“My highlight from the School for Student Leadership was skiing and mountain biking with the close friends I made throughout the program.”
Amber also shared a highlight of her time at the Dinner Plain campus.
“My highlight from the eight-week program was expedition two as I learnt new skills and became closer with my peers during this experience,” she said.
Ollie said he enjoyed the challenges posed over the eight-week program.
“My highlight from the alpine school was the Alpine Challenge of Champions and all the expeditions and activities that challenged me to grow as a person and allowed me to form lasting friendships.”
Isla said she also enjoyed her time.
“My highlight from rhe School for Student Leadership was exploring and learning about the alpine environment that surrounded Dinner Plain, and also completing the Mt Feathertop hike with my friends,” she said.
“Our community learning project is called Camperdown College Stationery Drive and aims to support students transitioning to our school at any year level by creating Stationery ‘Start-up’ Packs.
“This will maintain the inclusive and equal school environment that Camperdown College values, meaning that no student gets left behind.
“We will be contacting local trades and businesses requesting sponsorship for the packs that include folders, books and organisers.
“The stationery in these packs will include pencil case essentials, such as pencils, scissors and rulers, which we will collect as donations from our school community.”
Isla said anyone looking to donate stationary supplies can drop them off at the Camperdown College senior campus office at 1 Wilson Street.
“If you would like to support our stationary packs, we would appreciate donations of basic stationery items to fill pencil cases,” she said.
