THE saying “third time lucky” has staff, students and families at Camperdown College hoping the third return to school for 2020 is the last one for the year.
COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns have led to a disjointed and interrupted school year.
This week’s complete return to school for regional students across Victoria brought excitement and an enthusiastic buzz as students filled the corridors and school grounds once again.
“It was like the first day back after summer holidays,” school principal Cherie Kilpatrick said.
“There was definitely a buzz in the air”.
Ms Kilpatrick said staff are working closely with students to re-engage them with their peers, teachers and school routines by actively scheduling time to focus on students’ mental health and wellbeing and give priority to understanding each student’s academic needs.
“We are taking a structured approach to the return to school to make the most of the remaining school year,” she said.
“Students have been so resilient in their homeschooling time, and now it’s time to all get back together and see out 2020.”
Additional teaching and education support staff have been engaged for term four to support students in rebuilding their learning confidence, particularly in the key area of literacy.
At the Junior Campus there was much to celebrate as students keenly engaged in a game of Ga Ga within their custom made pit.
“We’re all very pleased to be back at school and together again as a community,” said Ms Kilpatrick.
