The grade six Environment Leadership Group have launched a Hot Cross Bun Drive.

“We are running a fundraiser and selling hot cross buns to raise money to buy trees to plant at Pomonal,” student Tyler McFarlane said.

He encouraged the community to get involved in the fundraiser.

“If you want you can come and get some hot cross buns; they’re only $9 a pack,” Tyler said.

Fellow Environment Leadership Group member Sophie Hunter said the students were pleased to be able to find a way to raise funds and help out.

“When we heard about the fire, we thought we could do a fundraiser to buy more trees,” she said.

“We’re hoping to raise enough for 200 trees.”

School principal Jarod Bacon commended the students on their efforts.

“It’s all ran by the students, but the teachers are all willing to help and show their support,” he said.

Bakers Delight Colac are supplying the hot cross buns, with packs of six available in three flavours – traditional, choc chip and apple and cinnamon.

Each pack is $9. Orders, with full payment, are required by Friday, March 22 to the Cobden Primary School.

The freshly baked hot cross buns will be available to pick up from the school on Tuesday, March 26.
