Students host fundraiser for those in need
STUDENTS at St Colman’s Primary School supported those struggling with homelessness during a student-led fundraiser last week.

The school community was looking cosy last Friday when students and staff alike wore pyjamas to school in a bid to raise funds for those less fortunate.
Year six student Charlotte Allen said students who are part of the Student Representative Council (SRC) had worked together to plan out the fundraiser, including where the funds would go.
“We decided to raise money for the Melbourne City Mission to help people who are homeless,” she said.
“We thought it was a good cause to be raising money for, and to help others.”
Melbourne City Mission was established more than 165 years ago and continues to offer vital services in support of those experiencing disadvantages such as homelessness.
Year five student Sadie Wardlaw said the SRC members had worked together to find a way students could support the worthy cause while still having fun at school.
“It’s a fun idea to help raise money for the Melbourne City Mission,” she said.
“We selected a pyjama day because we’re lucky we get to put our pyjamas on and go home to nice, warm beds.
“Some people aren’t able to do that.”
Year six student Imogen Barr said the occasion also provided an opportunity for students to better understand how fortunate they.
“It feels good to support people in need, and I’m grateful that I can,” she said.
“There are many people who don’t get to put on pyjamas and go to bed while none of us students are that unfortunate.”
