The school hosted its Mission Day, which celebrates the work of missionaries around the world in supporting those less fortunate while raising funds for future mission efforts.

The school hosted it’s event reminiscent of a school fair, with a wide range of activities available for all to enjoy - with all funds raised being donated to the Catholic Mission.

School principal Matthew Uzkuraitis said the day began with a mass before the students hosted their stalls, games and activities for the wider community to enjoy.

“Mission Day has been running at St Thomas’ for as long as I can remember, because October is Mission Month for the Catholic Church,” he said.

“It’s a great way for the kids to raise a bit of money for the missions.

“We want them to understand the why – the activities and the games are all great fun, but at the end of the day we all really need to understand why we’re doing it, where the money goes and how it supports those less fortunate than us.

“It’s good to have that empathy for others who aren’t as fortunate – it’s a lot of fun, but there’s an important turnout.”

Mr Uzkuraitis said it was great to see students get getting involved with a day of fun, which also provided an opportunity to gain perspective on how fortunate they have been.

“We try to get members of the community, parents and families and parishioners involved,” he said.

“Post-COVID we’re just starting to build up a bit more, year after year it gets bigger, so it’s an enjoyable day but also a meaningful one too.”
