Success for Mortlake bowlers
MORTLAKE bowlers had a successful round eight of weekend pennant.
Last Saturday’s results were as follows:
Mortlake Blue (div. 1) def. Dunkeld Blue 79-47 (home).
D Grant def. D Clements 33-11, G Draffen def. D Gordon 27-14 and L Johnson lost to S Field 19-22.
Mortlake Blue is second by 63 shots up on third-placed City Red, one point ahead of fourth placed City Gold and seven points behind top of the table Warrnambool Gold.
Mortlake White (div. 2) def. City Brown 57-49 (away).
A Wentworth def. P Malcolm 22-20, M Heard drew R Hose 15 all and J Rasmussen def. E Rogers 20-14.
Mortlake White is currently sixth on the ladder, one win out of the four and 10 points ahead of seventh-placed Port Fairy Blue.
Mortlake Gold (div. 4) def. City Black 45-38 (home).
V Smith lost to C Rayner 17-23 and L O'Shannessy def. R Craven 28-15.
Mortlake Gold is currently fifth by one shot difference to fourth-placed Koroit Green.

Last Sunday was an action-packed day for a few players with the conclusion of the WDPA mens’ fours at Warrnambool BC and the mens’ 100 Up final.
When we last left the WDPA action, the composite side of Les Johnson, Barry Stonehouse (Terang), Kevin Johnson and Wayne Cooper (Warrnambool) played against the composite side of J Barling, D King, J Clegg, P Verdon (sub) in the semi-finals that morning.
Mortlake’s crew defeated the invaders 16-14 to book a spot in the final that afternoon with the City Memorial side of M Fleming, N Hawkins, K McMahon and B O'Rourke.
In what must have been a tense match for all, we congratulate the 2023-24 WDPA Mens’ Fours Champions of Les Johnson, Barry Stonehouse, Kevin Johnson and Wayne Cooper.
This team, along with the womens’ fours champions, will have their chance to become region champions on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
Good luck to our teams in that contest.
On the same day, the Mens 100 Up Championship also came to its conclusion.
In the morning, Peter Beardsley played Darren Grant and Darren narrowly defeated Peter, for Darren to meet Dave McNicoll in the final that afternoon.
Congratulations to the mens’ 100 Up champion Darren Grant and well done to runner-up Dave McNicoll.

Mortlake Purple (div. 3) def. Port Fairy Red 39-32 (away).
V Smith def G Munro 29-11 and A van Diemen lost to I Blackmore 10-21.
Mortlake Green (div. 4) def. Terang White 54-27 (home).
G Kenna def. J Forssman 36-9 and G MacDonald drew E Dakin 18 all.

In Tuesday social pennant, Mortlake had the bye this week but will take on Terang at Terang next week.
