Success for Stern Idol
CHAMPION steeplechaser Stern Idol won his third consecutive JEH Spencer Steeplechase on Sunday at Terang.
The 2024 and 2025 events were run at Pakenham but the feature jumps day was held at Terang as Pakenham no longer conducts steeplechases.
The feature hurdle race, the MJ Bourke Hurdle, was won by Hit the Road Jack.
The MJ Bourke had also been run at Pakenham and was first run in 1957.
Members of the Bourke family were in attendance on Sunday.
Other winners were Instigator in the Roycroft Steeple, The Storyteller in the Victory Treadmills Hurdle, and Golden Crusader in the Laurie Kenna (OAM) hurdle.
Champion jockey Steve Pateman rode Stern Idol and Golden Crusader to claim the prize of a riding saddle as leading rider of the day.
There were many jumping and racing enthusiasts in attendance and the club hopes to build on the event in future years as a lead into the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival.
