Success tastes sweet
NAROGHID'S Barb Porter has cooked up a storm and enjoyed success in a national marmalade competition.
Taking part in The Worlds Original Marmalade Awards, which the Birregurra Country Women’s Association (CWA) hosted this year, she took away a number of awards.
Mrs Porter said this was the first time she had entered and had submitted seven entries which resulted in two silver awards, one bronze and three certificates of merits.
She said she was pleased with the results and congratulated the Birregurra CWA on the competition.
“They have spent the last five or six months getting everything ready,” Mrs Porter said.
“They had 200 odd entries which come from all over Australia.
“The Birregurra CWA had it down to a fine art, it was a massive job and the Birregurra
Post Office were also very supportive.”
Mrs Porter said the winning entry was from Perth and the marmalade – a Seville orange and bush honey flavour – will be produced by Beerenberg Farm and stocked in shops for a window of time.
“I’m really happy with how I went,” she said.
“The quality of the marmalade in the competition was just beautiful.
“I’ll have another go next year.”
The competition had five different categories which saw Mrs Porter create a number of different flavour sensations including Orange and Whisky, Fingerlime and Mandarin and Blood Orange, Ruby Grapefruit and Sage.
“Jye from Materia Brothers in Warrnambool got the fruit in that I needed for my entries,” she said.
“I worked for seven days making one marmalade each day.”
