Successful comp for Cobden Orchid Club

COBDEN and District Orchid Club members took part in the 21st Victorian Orchid Clubs Challenge weekend recently.

COBDEN and District Orchid Club members took part in the 21st Victorian Orchid Clubs Challenge weekend recently.

The event was hosted by the Stawell Orchid Society and signalled a return to competition weekends after COVID disruptions in recent years.

The Cobden and District Orchid Club was well represented with 16 members attending.

There were 11 clubs involved with the Victorian Challenge, — Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Horsham, Goulburn Valley, Mid Murray, Mildura, St Arnaud, Stawell, Warrnambool and Cobden.

Winners for the weekend were:

• D Staggard - Best Orchid from Cobden other than a Champion;

• D and B Stevenson - 1st Australian Champion Dendrobium; 1st Australian Native, 1st seedling flowering Paph and 2nd Australian Native Hybrid;

• N and D Robertson - 1st Australian Native; Terrestrial Species, 1st Specimen miniature Habit;

• J Whitewood - 1st Standard Cymbidium, 2nd seedling flowering Paphiopedilum, 3rd seedling Paph, 3rd Laelia Anceps; and

• A Evans - 1st Cymbidium, 2nd intermediate Cymbidium, 2nd Paph.

Club president Lindsay Rethus congratulated all prize getters and thanked all who contributed to the Cobden stand.

“As we are a small group Cobden can be proud of our achievements for a wonderful display with plenty of colour and admired by many,” he said.

The Cobden Orchid Club next meets on Friday, August 12 for the annual general meeting and then a general meeting to follow.

The meeting will be held at Cobden Civic Hall’s Heytesbury Room at 7pm.

New members are encouraged to attend.
