Successful return for Mortlake Art Show

THE Mortlake Art Show drew numbers in the hundreds throughout the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in a successful return for the beloved event.
Mortlake Community Development Committee president Kelvin Goodall said he was “rapt” with the large crowds despite uncertainty surrounding continued COVID-19 restrictions threatening the event until the last minute.
“It went a lot better than could be expected and we’ve well and truly covered our costs,” he said.
“It is a fantastic result just on gold coin donations and a raffle.
“We had about 80 paintings on exhibition and we raised about $600 at the Mortlake RSL Hall.
“The Art and Music exhibition held across the street at the Soldiers Memorial Hall raised about $500, which was really good.”
Mr Goodall said it was an interesting weekend due to the exhibitions never being overly crowded, but did feature a consistent churn of visitors who came out to view the work oflocal artists.
“I think we would have had a couple of hundred people through over the whole weekend,” he said.
“It could have been more but we didn’t take a tally as it would have been problematic between already having to sign people in to meet COVID-19 restrictions, but I’d say we had a couple of hundred or more.”
Mr Goodall said he was pleased to hear positive feedback from across the community.
“Everybody was impressed,” he said.
“Most of the artists said when collecting their paintings that they would be back next year.
“I’m very pleased with how it went given the circumstances.”
