FOR the first time in several years, Camperdown Cycling Club held a come and try night last week.

There were 11 starters for the handicap race, three of those were new riders to the club.

The sun was shining, and it felt like a wonderful time to be bike riders.

A big welcome to Taj, Elenor, and Bede to the club.

Last week’s race was fast, with six riders setting new personal bests (PB).

The winner was new rider (off limit) Bede who raced around the course at lightning speed with his father Alister keeping a watchful eye on him.

Bede crossed the line with a time of 14.13.

Second over the line was the smiling Finny with a time of 13.27 followed very closely by Archie in third position with a recorded time of 13.31.

The duo both set personal bests.

It was a huge effort by Barry who kept the two young riders pushing towards the finish line.

The ride times recorded were Bentley 11.02 (PB), Rieley 11.05 (PB), Ava 10.53, Lawson 12.57, Henry 13.02, Taj 13.03, Josh with fastest time of the night with 09.13, and Elenor came in with a time of 19.28 for her first race.

A big thanks to all senior riders who give their time to help mentor the juniors.

The senior riders at the Camperdown Cycling Club were lucky with sunny, warm and calm weather last Thursday - a change from the windy run of races that kicked off the season.

Zane Vogels rode off limit by himself, with Matt Clark a minute behind.

The bunch of Finn Baxter, Oliver Clark and Josh Thompson chased three minutes later, with Shaun Thompson and Todd Baxter riding off scratch another three minutes behind.

Zane, Matt, Finn, Josh and Oliver all came together at the flower farm.

Oliver stopped shortly after, traumatised from his earlier experience with a puncture and thinking it had happened again.

His bike was fine however, and he put in a massive effort to catch up to the group before the final corner.

With scratch breathing down the bunches neck, Finn attacked 300 metres before the corner and managed to leave a gap but was slowly reeled back in by the bunch before the finish; with Oliver at the front and crossing the line in first place.

Josh followed in second and Matt Clark came third after a struggle with Finn at the line.

In fourth place was Zane Vogels, followed by Sean, with Todd Baxter claiming the wooden spoon not far behind.
