Sumner to lead Lakers
YOUNG gun Harry Sumner will take over the captaincy of the Camperdown Lakers for the upcoming Twenty20 competition.

YOUNG gun Harry Sumner will take over the captaincy of the Camperdown Lakers for the upcoming Twenty20 competition.
Sumner will temporarily take over the reins from Jye McLaughlin for the series, bringing youth and a “different perspective” to the side.
“We’re all about promoting our young talent and Harry has that in spades,” McLaughlin said.
“He has leadership written all over him; he is a talented cricketer who has a lot to offer the game and our side so this series (Twenty20) is the perfect opportunity for him to have a red hot crack.
“Harry had knee surgery in the off-season and this Saturday will be his first game back so I’m sure he’ll be keen to get out there. I’ll be there to mentor and support him along the way.”
The Lakers will take on Cobden at Terang in their first match of the short-game.
The side will be keen to snare a win following last Saturday’s disappointing loss to Pomborneit.
“Pombo really has been the benchmark side of the past four or five seasons so we were expecting a tough day,” McLaughlin said.
“But in saying that, it was also disappointing to lose one. Pombo batted extremely well and made 9/328cc while we could only manage 137.”
McLaughlin said “dropped opportunities” and bowling both sides of the wicket proved costly for the Lakers and they’d be looking to improve on that in coming weeks.
“The boundary was short and they (Pomborneit) hit the target regularly,” McLaughlin said.
“Credit to our bowlers, Jordan Riches did really well to finish with 2/25 from his nine overs while Nick (Frith) took 5/83 off 10 and that included a hat trick in the last over.
“Nick had a tough spell, bowling into the wind, so he should be really proud of his efforts.”
